AFGE, Local 3937 Local Business Meeting March 11, 2015 Labor Temple, Seattle WA Present were: Steve Kofahl, Carrie Kitchin-Kofahl, Laura Novakoski, Ana Rivers, Ivan Weich, Susan Campbell, Tim Roark, Ardeth Bolin and Melanie Broady. The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Agenda:
Treasurer’s Report: We don’t have a current report for this meeting, but Ardeth amended December’s report. The Sound Credit Union bank statement from that month shows that we did get the rebate money requested from National for member recruitment (about $6700), so she passed out the revised statement today – the grand total in all accounts was actually $202,019.47 as of the end of the year. Old Business: None. New Business: Steve had planned to attend the Council 220 caucus in New Jersey in April, but also has been invited to attend the White House Conference on Aging regional forum in Seattle, and the rescheduled dates now conflict with the caucus. He therefore needs to unexpectedly cancel his flights to New Jersey; Tim made a motion that the Local cover the cost of the original ticket plus any change fees charged by the airline, for his future use on Local President business; Ardeth seconded. Steve and other allies involved in the White House forums plan to energetically bring up the issues that we feel are relevant for SSA and for our members, both in the forums and potentially in picketing at those events. Motion passed. We received notice from the National AFGE office yesterday that they’re willing to reimburse Locals for up to $100 for each new member and up to $100 for each recruiter. Previously we had paid $100 to the new member and $50 to the recruiter; so Carrie made a motion that for the remaining time in the campaign through June 30th 2015, the Local reimburse new members at those new rates; Laura seconded. This applies to Field Offices and TSC only because it’s a recruitment effort organized by Council 220. Motion passed. Reports: Ivan recently attended the WA State Labor Council Legislative Conference. They pushed for a minimum wage bill for $12.00 per hour, and also for a transportation package and 5 days of paid sick leave, all of which he strongly supported. He has a follow-up meeting with his state legislator from the 23rd District. Minutes review: Tim made a motion that this evening’s LBM minutes be approved as read and amended; Carrie seconded. Motion passed. Carrie moved to adjourn at 7:35pm. Motion passed. Minutes written and submitted by Laura Novakoski, Secretary. |
